Sunday 17 September

We set off for Pontevedra  via Sanxenxo which has nice beaches but is a hideous characterless town. Weather is a bit grim so nowhere would look good though. We are stopped by the Police as a cycle race is coming through and we wonder if it is the Vuelta. It isn’t! There are probably more Police motorcyclists than riders.

On to Pontevedra where we have a nice coffee served by a friendly Argentinian lady and then a mooch around the old town which is another stop for the Portuguese pilgrims

We drive on to cross the Miño over a rather narrow bridge into Portugal and go back in time by an hour. We stop at Valenča do Minho an impressive citadel with lots of stalls selling towels and linen which the Spanish flock across the border to buy. It starts to pour with rain so we take shelter and then decide to sit out the rain at a restaurant where we have baccalhau a bras which is salt cod, onion, shredded fried potato and scrambled egg. Delicious!

We make it to Caminha and the campsite by the estuary on one side,  and the  Atlantic on the other. Spain is just over the river.
